6-21-21 THOUGHTS

Joshua 7 is a story about a man named Achan who, against God’s command, took spoil of the enemy and hid it in the camp.  Please take the time to read the chapter. Last evening, Bob began his reading with  Ps 119:37-38       Turn away my eyes from looking at vanity, And revive me in Your ways. 38  Establish Your word to Your servant, As that which produces reverence for You.
Num 15:37-40     The LORD also spoke to Moses, saying, 38  "Speak to the sons of Israel, and tell them that they shall make for themselves tassels on the corners of their garments throughout their generations, and that they shall put on the tassel of each corner a cord of blue. 39  "It shall be a tassel for you to look at and remember all the commandments of the LORD, so as to do them and not follow after your own heart and your own eyes, after which you played the harlot,  40  so that you may remember to do all My commandments and be holy to your God.
Job 31:1    "I have made a covenant with my eyes; How then could I gaze at a virgin?
1John 2:15-17    Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16  For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. 17  The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever.
1John 4:4-6   You are from God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.  5  They are from the world; therefore they speak as from the world, and the world listens to them. 6  We are from God; he who knows God listens to us; he who is not from God does not listen to us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error.
Col 3:1-2    Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2  Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth.
Prov 23:5  When you set your eyes on it, it is gone. For [wealth] certainly makes itself wings Like an eagle that flies [toward] the heavens.
1Tim 6:10    For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.
Matt 6:22   "The eye is the lamp of the body; so then if your eye is clear, your whole body will be full of light.
Matt 6:24  "No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.
Prov 4:25   Let your eyes look directly ahead  And let your gaze be fixed straight in front of you.
This last passage is a FOCUS verse!  I need to be DILIGENT to KEEP FROM BEING DISTRACTED!   The KEY TO ETERNITY is in this discussion.

My Prayer:
Help us O Lord to focus our minds and hearts on you and the things above.  Keep us from a world that sings the songs of desire and lust and self-indulgence so powerfully.  Help us discern the power of technology, and the internet and the cell phone.  These are an ever-present luring.
Help us as fathers with our families.     In Jesus name            Amen
